The Friends of Wellesley Council on Aging always welcome new volunteers including additional board members and directors. There are numerous opportunities to help, including the need for: event planning, marketing assistance, computer skills, finance, legal, helpers, grant-writing, and more. Whatever your skills, join us!
Pete Godfrey, president
Peter and his wife Beverly have lived in Wellesley for over 40 years, with their three children completing their studies within the town’s excellent school system. During their children’s school years he was active in youth activities, and now in retirement dedicates his volunteer time to the Council on Aging and with SCORE, the organization of retired business executives who furnish free consulting services to small businesses and start-ups. After graduation from Babson College, much of his business career was spent as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for United Electric Controls Company, manufacturer of industrial process control and plant safety instrumentation. He led the development and management of the company’s marketing and sales channels, worldwide, with particular emphasis on new and developing industrial economies and markets. As part of the team of volunteers with the Friends of Wellesley Council on Aging, he looks forward to the challenges of helping develop funding resources that will be applied to expanding and improving programs and services for Wellesley seniors, as well as increasing visibility and awareness of the COA throughout the community.
Meet our leadership
Fred Keuthen, vice president/treasurer
Fred and his wife Cathy are longtime residents of Wellesley. Both of their daughters attended Wellesley public schools through high school. Before he retired he worked in the law departments of two insurance companies in Boston. He began with the Friends in 2016. In addition to volunteering with the Friends he also does tax returns for seniors through AARP and Medicare consulting through the SHINE program. And he participates in financial education programs in public schools through Junior Achievement and other education based organizations.
Joan Sullivan, secretary
Joan's early career was spent working as a nurse. Subsequently, she became a Psychologist, working primarily as a psychodynamic psychotherapist in Boston. Her specialty was Infertility & Adoption Issues. She holds a BS from University of Massachusetts, an MS from Boston College & a Psy.D. from William James college, formerly known as The Massachusetts School of Psychology.
Joan retired early because of some chronic health problems. Searching for intellectual stimulation and collegial relationships, she was happy to find a nascent organization, the Friends of the Wellesley Council On Aging. Joan feels passionate about her volunteer work with the Friends. Joan's other main interests include B&W photography, jazz and cats. She is also an amateur political junkie who is active with the Wellesley Democratic Town Committee. She has a grown daughter who resides in a nearby town.
